How do I cancel Swiss health insurance when leaving Switzerland?
Compulsory insurance ends when you move away. Deregister at your municipality and send the deregistration certificate to the insurer – this is independent of the 30 November deadline.
What happens to health insurance after a death?
Basic insurance ends automatically on death. Relatives inform the insurer with a copy of the death certificate; overpaid premiums are refunded.
Does the postmark count?
No – the date of receipt counts. A letter posted on 30 November arrives too late. Send the registered letter a few working days earlier.
Can the new insurer refuse me?
Not for basic insurance – every insurer must accept you. For supplementary insurance a refusal is possible.
Do I also have to cancel supplementary insurance?
No, it is a separate contract. Choose “basic and supplementary” in the form to cancel both.
Can I write the letter in English?
