Object to a Swiss tax assessment or fine
You object to a tax assessment in writing, with reasons, within 30 days (Art. 132 DBG; cantonal rules are usually the same). Against a penalty order (Strafbefehl) – for example for a larger fine – the deadline is only 10 days (Art. 354 StPO). The period starts the day after notification; for authorities, handing the letter to Swiss Post on the last day is enough.

Frequently asked questions
What goes into a tax objection?
Your request (what should change), the reasons and supporting documents. Quote the assessment with its date and your taxpayer number.
Should I contest a parking ticket?
You either pay a fixed-penalty fine (Ordnungsbusse) or you don’t; if not, ordinary proceedings follow with a penalty order, which you can object to – at the risk of bearing the costs.
Why registered mail?
Because you must prove you sent it in time. The tracking number shows the date it was handed to Swiss Post.
